On October 19, 2015 Colonia Patriots Junior Varsity team had a loss to cross town rivals Woodbridge High School with a score of 14-6 at the Colonia field.
Before this game, Woodbridge High School’s Football team, both JV and Varisty, had lost to New Brunswick the week before, giving them a record of 3-2. Although Colonia had a record of 4-1, they had another loss the week before to Carteret with a score of 14-12. Both teams wanted to win very badly considering Colonia’s varsity defeated the Barrons gaining the ‘Bragging Rights’ trophy with tight score of 27-26.
Starting the first quarter was a bit slow, almost a repeat of what happened during the Varsity game except that in the last two minutes of the JV game, quarterback Taj Calvin-Johnson threw a 15-yard pass to Sophomore Anthony Palmisano who ran the ball and scored a touchdown for the Patriots.
Woodbridge and Colonia High school both played hard but second quarter was bland with no touchdowns from both teams. In opposition Colonia’s defense hits harder and the Barrons have a stronger offense.
In the third quarter Jaedon Gomez caught an interception thrown by Colonia’s quarterback Taj calvin-Johnson resulting in a six point touchdown for Woodbridge. After that, they gained a two point conversion giving them a lead of two points, 8-6. In the middle of the third quarter, sophomore Isaiah Pahopin got repossession of the ball for Colonia resulting in a turn over.
Both teams played harder in the fourth quarter and both teams were close in score. Colonia started to get the upper hand when they down the ball in the last quarter. Woodbridge began to gain the higher score when sophomore Luke Pero fumbled on the first play which then allowed Woodbridge to make a 20-yard pass to Junior Jack Salazar who scores a touchdown making the score 14-6.
This is where it all ended with Woodbridge taking the win for their school.
